Transform.. evolve.. TRANSCENDE!

Extra huge thanks to this guy :iconadonihs: for pimpin my stuff... I haven't been someone who has been blown up or get's a lot of trafficand it was nice to see that more people are out there that dig my stuff. I promise to continue adding top quality work for as long as people dig it.. :)

ALSO

So our fellow deviant Artist :iconkristiano: and I were having a conversation todayand he brought up these drawing jams he does ( I never seem to be able to remember or Im busy ) and asked if I was down to promote and participate this go round so I said "HELL YEAH"
so here's the jam....

Take a character .. any character .. your favorite.. one you don't like .. any familiar character... NOW! draw him in a totally different style and put them in an environment that they normally wouldn't be in... example... Put Fred Flintstone in the future and draw him in the Disney style ..

Deadline is around a week away

you have such a strong understanding of style. I respect that. I'll have to take a look at Don Bluth. Yes I can see how different styles can all contribute to your own style, but in the end it's still copying others.

Watch any Don Bluth movie and you'll see what I mean they have a similarity of line and of movement... a flow to the drawings and a styling of chacter that is very Bluth in it's own way.
Anime comes in a lot of styles too and though a lot may seem the same it too has differences some more extreme than others.
I think it takes time to develop a "STYLE" and to consider anything unique and of it's own today is really honestly impossible.. everything has been brought to light from something else's inspiration in one way or another whether it be intentional or not. My stuff is an amalgum of TOm Oreb, UPA stuff, Hanna Barbera, stuff from the 40's-now.. I loved Disney as a kid .. I love samurai Jack adn Dexters Lab too... I use all of that to inspire me and to find the lines and shapes Im searching for.. it's like educating yourself .. you need to constantly learn otherwise you'll become static and stale.. I'll take a look at your galley and note you :)

yeah but I can see what you're saying about deriving characteristics. there is almost nothing one can make these days without "biting off" someone else's ideas...

Animes, for example, are pretty much copying each other, even if some look more distinct than others.

Cartoons, as well. while cartoons are generally more varied to each other than anime, there's a point where the similarities are clear.

regardless, I still find my style rather unique. have you seen my art? I'd like you to help judge the "uniqueness" of it. please.

Style takes a long time to figure out. Especially if you want to work in animation...Trying to set yourself up to be different is the hardest part..as you get older you'll realize that UNIQUE in this field isn't a real word.. you can develop your style into something that is more yourself than anything else but we're all kinda carbon copies of the artists we grow up with as inspirations. Alot of what Im seeing these days even in the mainstream is a derivative of disney and the don bluth style for example.. even though it looks fresh and new, when you look at it with educated eyes so to speak you'll see where all the little pieces are coming from. Now with comics, TV, and movies so close together the pieces are getting harder to pin point but, it's still there and happening. :)
